EmpowerHer EcoPads: Access to Menstrual Products

Financial circumstances often lead young girls to use old clothes as makeshift sanitary pads for menstrual care. However, these are not sanitized, leading to the risk of infection. At the same time, cultural norms prevent young girls from discussing the topic of feminine hygiene with their mothers or adult female figures in their lives.

WEEI aims to address both issues by educating women of all ages on the importance of learning about a woman's menstrual cycle and the need for safe and sanitized products. By partnering with local leaders, WEEI was able to provide girls in Senegal with reusable sanitary pads directly. We aim to expand this project by providing girls with the resources and skills to make their own pads, tailored to their design, fabric, and size preferences.

Next Step: the creation of a sanitary pad sewing facility; returning to our original vision of providing women with entrepreneurial opportunities.
